Proxy Server Issues

Misconfigured or outdated proxy settings can block network access and cause errors such as “Cannot connect to proxy server.” This guide helps you disable or correctly configure proxy settings in Windows and major browsers.

Tip: Some organizations require proxy servers for internal access. Always confirm your company’s proxy settings before making changes.

Windows Settings

  1. Open Settings → Network & Internet → Proxy.
  2. Under Manual Proxy Setup, turn Off “Use a proxy server” unless required.
  3. Turn on Automatically detect settings to allow Windows to use system defaults.
  4. Click Save and restart your browser or reconnect to Wi-Fi.

Browser Proxy Fix

Command Reset

If proxy issues persist, reset Windows proxy configurations from an elevated Command Prompt:

Warning: Resetting proxy settings removes all saved proxy configurations for Windows components. If your network requires one, note the address before resetting.
netsh winhttp reset proxy
Success Tip: After resetting, reopen your browser and test connection speed or retry accessing previously blocked sites.
